Life as we (the Funk's) know it

We are officially two weeks into the school year and I finally feel like I can breathe a little since having the twins almost a year ago! I can't believe they'll be ONE next month, but I'll circle back to that ;)  It's been a while since I've done a little update on what our family has been up to lately, so here we go...

Emma and Charlotte both started school earlier this month and they are loving and rocking it! Em is seriously up before the sun each morning ready to go and Charlotte wishes she was going every day like big sis.  She's only going three days a week right now.  I get excited when it's time to go pick them up, but I'm not sad when I drop them off.  Haha!  It's been nice to hang out with just the twins and I'm sure they are loving not having two (wild) big kids trying to pick them up and dragging them around everywhere.

We made it through our first Summer here in Indiana and even though I'm still really missing Florida and all of our friends there, we did have some fun.  We went to Texas and spent time with family, which was the twins longest road trip.  My mom flew up and then we made the 14 hour drive.  It was an adventure and they did really well!  We got to visit with my great-grandmother who just turned 95!  We also got to see a lot of family we haven't seen in a very long time.  It was wonderful and needed.

Cousins!
Mi Abuela
The girl's great-great grandmother!
A few of our friends from Florida made a surprise visit over the Fourth of July followed by a visit from my youngest sister and her family.  We definitely tried to make the most of it, but I would be lying if I didn't tell you that I have really low expectations these days.  Four kids under five isn't easy and I definitely can't take them out on my own without help.

We did make it to the Indianapolis Zoo a few times and I'm ready for some cooler weather so that we can really enjoy being there all day!  They had a new Black Mamba (or chicken snake as Charlotte likes to call them) exhibit and Sloth exhibit, both of which were the girls favorites.

We are gearing up to celebrate our twins turning a year old, which seems unreal.  This has been the fastest year of my life yet.  They are growing at a crazy speed and it finally feels like we have this whole twin parenting thing down, or maybe not.  It changes daily.  I've said this before and I'll probably keep saying, but everything I thought I knew about motherhood changed when the twins arrived.  Nothing has been easy and nothing has been the same.  It's been an emotionally roller coaster, but here we are still alive.  I can however proudly say that I am still nursing both of them which I knew I could, but it's been hard AF. #realtalk

I'm still working through my postpartum anxiety and PTSD, which I can say is so much better today than it was a few months ago.  I'm still working on writing about my experience and everything that happened when delivery Molly and Kathryn.  I promise I'll get it posted before the twins go to college.

We finally made it to church service for the first time in a year too and it felt soooo good.  That was a huge accomplishment for us and the twins did great in the nursery.  I'm fortunate to have in-laws that have been keeping our girls on the weekends so they are able to go to Sunday school, but the twins sleep schedule (or lack of) has made it difficult for us to go.

Other than that, life as we know it has still been full of poopy diapers, messy floors (and kids), some tears, some yelling and a whole lot of love.

Twins Bumpdate: It's baby time!

How far along?
Currently 37 weeks!  I obviously haven't blogged in almost two months and with good reason.  I've been exhausted, we moved out of state, I was put on partial bed rest and I have two toddlers at home to take care of.  The last few months have flown by and to be completely honest, I haven't been motivated to blog.  I know I will regret this, so here I am with what will be my last #bumpdate!

Babies are the size of?
Ummm....they are huge!  At least for twins.  My OB has been so impressed with their growth and they are both measuring the same. (17in each; 6lbs each)

Total weight gain/loss?
20lbs - I know this probably doesn't seem like a lot in my situation, but I was around 15lbs overweight when I got pregnant due to the miscarriage I had last Summer.

Are you showing?
I finally had to ask my husband to help me put my socks and shoes on.  I can barely put on pants by myself anymore.  I bump into everything.

Cravings?
For the first time this pregnancy, I am waking up so hungry in the middle of the night.  I am basically eating anything and everything and still have a pretty bad sweet tooth.

Sleeping?
I get decent sleep maybe once every two to three nights.  The other nights I am up every two hours and it takes me at least 45 minutes to fall back asleep.

Symptoms?
Where do I start.  My feet are still very swollen, I've started having some crazy, painful contractions, heartburn, I'm waddling, stretch marks like you wouldn't believe and back pain.  Seriously, all the pregnancy symptoms.

Genders?
TWINS GIRLS!  If you haven't seen our gender reveal, you can watch the video here and read my blog post here.

Movement?
My stomach looks like a scene from an alien movie.  It's crazy how much they are both moving.  Baby B moves way more than Baby A.

Mood this month?
Anxious! We are so ready for our twins to be here.

Best moments of July and August?
I don't know where to start!  I turned 31.  We bought our home in Indiana.  I finally met my new OB which was a huge relief.   I had a mommy daughter date with my oldest. We enjoyed Kentucky and the girls swam pretty much every day.  We were finally reunited with my husband who was finishing up work in Florida.  My MIL moved in with us to help with my girls since I was put on partial bed rest.  At 33 weeks I was already dilated 3cm and we prepared ourselves for a stay in NICU.  I became a contributor for Gugu Guru, an online parenting resource!  I've had several OB appointments and each time, the twins are doing great.  I did end up in triage for false labor once and another time to check out a possible blood clot.  I finally had a date night with my husband (probably our last one before the babies come).  We celebrated my husband's birthday and have basically just been enjoying being in our park yard since I'm limited on what I can do.

We are thrilled to finally meet our girls next week when I'll be induced at 38 weeks!

A fun campaign I did with Dominos and Gugu Guru!

Twins Bumpdate: 27 + 28 weeks

How far along?
27/28 weeks!  (Hello 3rd Trimester)

Babies are the size of?
Butternut Squash (14in each; 3lbs each)

Total weight gain/loss?
13lbs+

Are you showing?
Yes! Some days I feel huge and clearly look like I'm having twins and some days people are shocked when I tell them.

Cravings?
Fruit and vegetables.  I think it's helped that I've been at my in-laws and they try to eat pretty healthy.

Sleeping?
It's still a hit or miss situation.  Some nights it's decent and some nights I'm up at 3am and can't go back to sleep.

Symptoms?
Just tired.  I can't seem to get enough sleep.  Swelling isn't terrible, but it's definitely still there.

Genders?
TWINS GIRLS!  If you haven't seen our gender reveal, you can watch the video here and read my blog post here.

Movement?
My stomach looks like a scene from an alien movie.  It's crazy how much they are both moving.  Baby B moves way more than Baby A.

Mood this week?
A little stressed.

Best moment this week?
We have officially been in Kentucky for a few weeks now.  I got to do a little house hunting in Indiana while the girls stayed with my in-laws.  My husband flew up and met me and we put an offer in on a house and it was accepted!  We are anxious to close on our new home and make it our own.  I turned 31 this week, but didn't really do a lot of celebrating.  I mean, my husband bought us a new home, so that was a pretty big deal.  We missed fireworks, but had a little glow party in the living room instead.  Oh, and I spent a few hours in triage because my Braxton Hicks were so bad that I couldn't tell if they were actual contractions or not.

Twins Bumpdate: 25 + 26 weeks

How far along?
25/26 weeks!

Babies are the size of?
Eggplants (10in each; 2lbs each)

Total weight gain/loss?
11lbs+

Are you showing?
Yes! I was actually asked twice this week if I was due any day now! Haha!

Cravings?
I'm still craving Shrimp and Grits...any seafood really.

Sleeping?
It's still a hit or miss situation.  Some nights it's decent and some nights I'm up at 3am and can't go back to sleep.

Symptoms?
Swelling hasn't gone away and I've really bad acid indigestion and heartburn lately.  I get the occasional headache, but that could just be from having toddlers.

Mood this week?
It's been a bittersweet week for all of us.

Best moment this week?
We found out we would be leaving Florida this week because of a job my husband took in Indiana.  You can read about that here.  With that being said, we put our house on the market and planned as many activities and play dates as we could before we left.  We went to the Crayola Experience, Medieval Times and DISNEY WORLD!  We had a blast but it was exhausting.  We said goodbye and tried to see as many people as we could and love on them before our big trip to the Midwest.

Strawberry Picking | Making Memories with my Toddler

Monday, August 1, 2016

I absolutely love spending time with my girls and making memories that we can share for a lifetime.  It's amazing how much Emma has grown in these last few months. I feel like she learns something new everyday or she's teaching me something new!  We have our good days and bad, but it's so special that I get to be a part of that. I honestly wouldn't trade any of it.

Now that Emma is two (going on 12), I love finding new things for us to do together.  It should be easy, but sometimes I need help finding things for a toddler to do.  Over the next few weeks, I'm going to be sharing some of our favorite ways to make memories together.

Emma and I both experienced strawberry picking for the first time and had a blast.  To see the joy and excitement on Emma's face was more than enough for me and definitely worth the hour and a half drive we made to pick them.  She is so full of life and personality!

This is definitely a must-do with kids of all ages, but it was especially fun for my toddler.   The farm we went to does strawberry, blueberry and blackberry picking!  Not to mention, this is an activity that doesn't cost a lot either.  The experience was completely free and we paid under $5 for a huge bucket of strawberries that we got to pick ourselves!  They were big, red and juicy!  Clearly, Emma enjoyed them :It was hard to get her to stop eating them and put them in the bucket!

My husband and I have friends whose boys' are around the same age as Emma (just a few years difference).  She loves spending time with them and I enjoy spending time with their sweet mommy.  The strawberry farm is near them and it couldn't have been a more gorgeous day to be outside.

Afterwards, we took the kids to a nearby park and had a picnic!  It was so much fun and it made for a full day with no very little toddler tantrums.  This is something we will never forget and can't wait to do again!

{Picture overload because it was too much fun not to share them all!}
