We all know it's cold and flu season, which means as a mom I am trying to do all that I can to prevent my two toddlers from getting sick.  We personally, as a family, do not get flu shots.  It's not because of religious reasons or any holistic reason.  I just think my girls are too little for them and it's not something I want to get, so I don't give it to my girls.  It's just a personal preference.  I really try to find other ways to prevent them getting sick and so far, we have been pretty successful.

I had never heard of Elderberry syrup before a friend in my mom's group introduced it to me.  I love that it is made with all natural and organic ingredients, so I couldn't wait to try it.

So, what is in Williams Organic Elderberry Syrup? It's filtered water, elderberries, raw vitamin C, raw local Florida honey, ginger root (not powdered), cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, peppercorns, echinacea, crushed garlic cloves, oregano, turmeric, and whole rose hips.  What's NOT in your syrup? Preservatives of any kind, additives, stabilizers, thickeners, emulsifiers, dyes or any other filler.

5.  It lowers blood sugar.  The elder-flower extracts help stimulate glucose metabolism and the secretion of insulin, which lowers blood sugar.  This is great if you have high blood sugar and want to try a natural way to lower it.

I was a little nervous (and excited) to try Smile Brilliant because I do have some tooth sensitivity.  Luckily, the kit comes with everything you need, including desensitizing gel and thorough instructions.  I was surprised to find that it didn't bother my teeth too much the first time and only got better with each whitening session.   

I love how easy Smile Brilliant is to use.  It was fun getting to mold the clay to make my teeth impressions.  It was even more fun when they arrived back in the mail and I was able to start whitening my teeth.

I chose to whiten my teeth in the evenings after putting my girls to bed.  It is actually recommended before bed so you're not tempted to eat or drink anything for a while.  I literally laid in bed, watched Netflix and let Smile Brilliant do all the work.

Things around the Funk household have been insane since last month!  We took a two week trip to Texas in late September/early October (without my husband) to visit family and have been going ever since we returned home.  The girls and I missed Michael more than you can imagine!  Anyone who has traveled alone with kids, I'm sure can relate to missing your significant other for so many reasons!

Things were definitely not the same without him around and I realized (even more than I already knew) how important he is to our lives.  I took about a month hiatus from blogging because of this reason.  As soon as we got home, we wanted to spend as much time with him as we could since we had missed out on the last few weeks.  We had day dates, went to the park and just enjoyed being back home.

He deserves the girls time when they're not running around doing their own activities.

After having my first daughter, it didn't take long to accept the fact that I was not one of those women who just bounces back after pregnancy.  I have never been a size 2 to begin with and I had to work really hard to get back into shape.  Once I began to really lose the baby weight and feel good about myself, I found out I was pregnant with my second daughter!  As exciting as this was, I knew my body was going to start changing again.  Gosh, did it change this time!  If you look at these images, I have loose belly skin, I have curves and my boobs definitely aren't perky anymore.  I also developed a hernia with my second that left me with a "weird" belly button!

Speaking of "not so perky boobs", when I look at this photo below, I seriously get all the emotions!  I feel like it describes all that I am as a breastfeeding mother.  I breastfed my first daughter until she was 14 months old and I continue to breastfeed my youngest at 10 months old.  My breasts aren't nearly as perky as they used to be and I'm ok with that.  I was able to give my girls something that absolutely no other person can.  I nourished them and bonded with them and I will forever be grateful that my body allowed me to do this.  I feel that the look on my face shows my struggles as a mother, yet I feel the most beautiful in this photo. 

I've never gone a day without knowing that my husband thinks I am beautiful and that he loves my postpartum body.  He does a wonderful job of making sure I know that.  It's just not the same as YOU knowing that you're beautiful.

I came across Jolise Photography, when I was browsing through a local mommy business post on Facebook.  I thought, wow, boudoir photography, that looks fun!  My first instinct was that this would be a great birthday present for my husband.  His birthday was coming up and he is one of those guys who has just about everything and anything he doesn't have, he typically gets it for himself.  I knew that this would be an awesome surprise for him!  What I didn't know, is that this would actually end up being something for ME and all about ME and my journey through accepting and coming to love my postpartum body....3 years and 2 kids later.

I reached out to Sara, the owner and artist behind Jolise Photography, to see if she would want to work together on this project.  I was so excited when she said yes and we immediately planned a day to meet for coffee and discuss the details.  This is something that she does with all of her clients to make sure there is a connection.  This type of photoshoot can be intimidating (way out of my comfort zone) and I like that I got to meet her.  Sara is wonderful!

My experience from the very beginning was great.  We met for coffee at a local coffee shop called Black Crow Coffee shop in Saint Petersburg.  I highly recommend this place if you are in the area!  It was the perfect, little spot for us to discuss the details of this shoot!  I was so nervous and excited about meeting.  It was like a first date!  Sara made me feel at ease from the moment we began talking. 

She showed me photos of recent shoots she had done and I had a rush of emotions hit me all at once.  The women she showed me were all different shapes and sizes and each had different stories.  Want to know what they had in common?  They were all absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

This meeting with Sara really got me to thinking about how I viewed my postpartum body and how I wanted my photos to look and feel.  Most women understand that becoming a mother will change you.  It is such an incredible, selfless act.  What some don't realize and I'm guilty of this, is how it changes your body. 

How can someone prepare themselves for a 'new' body that you have little control over? 

I mean, I knew that stretch marks are typically genetic and I was prepared to get them, but nobody wants them.  I see women who post that they "earned their stripes" and although it's very encouraging and I support their positive body image, it still wasn't easy to accept.  Let be real, nobody gets pregnant and says, "bring on the stretch marks, hemorrhoids and mood swings."  I didn't get stretch marks until I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with my first daughter and it was hard to believe that I got them right before I was to have her.  Even though I thought I had prepared myself for it, I was honestly disappointed

It hasn't been easy, but since then I've learned to embrace the body that I currently have.  I don't obsess over not fitting into my pre-baby clothes.  Does that mean that I don't try?  Of course I try, but I don't get upset if it doesn't happen.  What's important is that I'm healthy and that I love my body.  As a mom of two girls, it's important that I teach them what that means.

Just know that no matter what your body looks like after having children, you are absolutely beautiful!  You are a rockstar...a gorgeous MOTHER...a STRONG woman who brought life into this world.  Own your body, your curves, loose skin or whatever else has made you a mommy.  I get it, we all have insecurities and it's definitely easier said than done, but just know that you are not alone in this journey! 

More about my boudoir photo-shoot experience:

Sara and I, set a date for my photo-shoot during our coffee "date".  We also booked Krista Ritchie, who would be my hair and makeup artist for the day, and an absolutely amazing one too!  I was greeted with champagne and the day was all about me!  I had my hair and makeup done, listened to good music and then started our photo-shoot with little breaks to change out outfits and sip on champagne.  It was one of the best experiences of my life and I can't wait to do it again.  I walked in a nervous wreck about having to put on 'lingerie'.  Sara gives you the option of picking out your own outfits, but also has cute items in her studio to choose from.  By the end of it all, I was having so much fun that I didn't even realize that my loose belly skin was hanging out!  I was so comfortable and I felt so good about this body of mine.  I felt pretty, ok, I felt HOT!  You can watch a video of my day by clicking here.

Probably the most exciting part of this experience was having my reveal session with Sara!  She sets up a time and day a few weeks after your photo-shoot for you to come in and see your photos.  This is unlike anything I've ever done!  I walked in to her studio and was once again greeted with champagne.  I'm starting to think I should just go visit her studio more often! Ha! 

I was so surprised to walk into all of my pictures hanging on the wall!  I was so overwhelmed with how they looked that I was finding it hard not to cry. 

This was me.  All of me.  Tastefully exposed.  I've had two precious girls in these photos.  I've had good days and bad days.  I've loved my body and hated my body.  This is also my last year in my 20s.  I will forever have these as a reminder that I am beautiful in my own skin.

Re-Play Recycled recently sent me a feeding set for the girls to enjoy.  We already had a few of their feeding products that my mother-in-law actually introduced us to, but had never tried their sippy cups or snack stacks.  

Y'all, we are obsessed!  I have to start by telling you that my husband was the first to actually say how much he loved these products, which was pretty unexpected.  He never really speaks up too much about this kind of stuff, so I pleased when he told me how much he loved Re-play!  He actually said, "we should have had this all along", when talking about the sippy cup.  It does not leak at all!  It really is worth getting if you are looking for new cups.  We did take out the valve for Emma and it still didn't let much liquid out.  It was perfect for Charlotte, who is still learning to use one and throws it around everywhere.

Another thing I love are the utensils.  They are big enough for Emma (or any toddler) to hold easily and actually get food on the fork and spoon and into her mouth.  These are unlike any other plastic utensils we've used and I'm excited that Charlotte will be able to learn with these.  And let's talk about the food dividers for just a second.  This is Emma's favorite part and she insists that each compartment is filled with something.  It encourages her to eat well and it encourages me, as a mom, to fill it with healthy food and snacks! 

If you haven't tried the snack stacks, they are another favorite.  I can put a snack in one for Emma and something different in the other for Charlotte, stack them and head out the door.  I don't have to worry about them making a mess! After Emma was born, I went a little crazy (like I'm sure most first time moms of girls do) and was buying everything girly that I could get my hands on.  Headbands, clothes, shoes....oh, the shoes, you name it.  She had sandals, dress shoes, tennis shoes and the list goes on.  What she didn't have though, was a pair of Freshly Picked moccasins.  My husband couldn't understand why she needed them, but I explained and well, happy wife, happy life...am I right?!

Now that we have two girls, I love when I can put them in matching outfits.  I can't always find coordinating outfits, so we match our Freshly Picked moccasins!  I really wish they made these in my size, because I would totally wear them!  I love matching with my sweet girls!  Now, if you haven't heard of FP, I bet you're wondering why I'm a little obsessed with them?

I've recently had the opportunity to team up with FP for a giveaway and not only are these shoes amazingly made and versatile, but everyone I've encountered who works for FP has been so wonderful. 

These are the perfect shoes for little ones who are starting out walking to full blown running.  They seriously go with just about everything and the quality is great!  They are comfortable for my girls at any stage and actually stay on their little feet.  They come in so many different colors and patterns.  I want them all!  I'm dying over these Daisy printed moccs right now (hint, hint-to my husband that I know is reading this)!  They are made to stretch some, so your little one will be able to wear them for a while, which is a plus for us and our growing way too fast girls.  They are by far our favorite shoes!  Emma never wants to take them off!  They've already been through the ringer with a wild toddler, but still manage to look just as new (with the exception of her tiny little toes imprinted on the bottoms).  All the heart eyes, y'all!  My favorite thing about these is that I will be able to keep them little forever when I go back and look at the bottom of their moccasins and think about all of the wonderful memories we've made while wearing them.

Sweeeet Summer time, y'all!!  Summer is here and it's already been a hot one here in Florida, so I decided I would share a few of my favorite Summer products that help keep me feeling "Cool for the Summer"! (anyone else singing Demi Lovato's song right now)

Like I promised (if you've been following me on Instagram),  I'm giving away some of my favorites to one lucky follower!  I'm so excited about this amazing giveaway!  It's my birthday week and I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate!

So...are you just dying to know about my favorite Summer products?

1. I love getting my nails done.  It can be so much fun to go the salon and relax, but with two kiddos under two now, it's almost impossible to do.  That's when I discovered Jamberry nails.  They are amazing and so easy to apply.  Mine lasted almost three weeks and one sheet costs a lot less than a manicure.  Each sheet has 2-3 applications!

2. Rodan and Fields Sunscreen is my go to for keeping my skin protected during the Summer.  We love to go boating and this sunscreen is so lightweight and non-greasy.  It's perfect for everyone in my family, including my girls.  It's a must-have!

3. My absolute favorite monogrammed mason jar tumbler is from Caroline Randall Made AND it has another summer favorite all over it...flamingos!  I drink out of this tumbler every single day.  It is cute, easy to take with me and I can easily change out the sleeves!  I secretly want to keep the giveaway tumbler for myself ;)

4.  Floppy hats are one of my go-tos for the Summer.  You can dress it up or dress it down.  They are cute with just about anything!

5.  Let's be honest, flower crowns are everything!  I love how whimsical they are and how beautiful they look and make you feel.  RyleighxCo has the cutest shop filled with flower crowns and mommy and me items.

6.  Younique makeup has been my favorite brand for lipstick and mascara!  I'm obsessed with lipstick and like that I can mix it up in the Summer with a bold pop of color!

7.  This tank!  I want to wear this everyday!  Adding Accents has the best tanks and tees!  I seriously want them all!  It's perfect for a Summer outing.

8.  You can't forget a good coffee mug!  The Summer is for getting up early, hitting the beach and going to bed way too late.  You're going to need a lot of caffeine and what better way than to drink it out of this adorable mug from ByTracey?!  You can't go wrong with any of her cute and clever designs.  

8.  If you know me, you know how much I love the smell of coconut!  This coconut citrus candle smells like I'm on a beach all day long (even when I'm covered in baby food).

There is nothing better than a teething baby...said no mom ever!  God definitely has a sense of humor because I've had it twofold with Charlotte cutting her first teeth and Emma cutting her two year molars.  There is drool everywhere and teeth marks in the couch.  No, we did not get a new puppy...that's just our 6 month old and our toddler.  Ha!

Charlotte has been wearing her Amber teething necklace from Mister Man Pants for about two months now (24/7), has cut two teeth and there are more on their way soon!  I've worked with Kate from Mister Man Pants before when Emma was a baby and I'm so glad that I did.  I love what these Amber necklaces have done for both my girls.

I remember when Emma was around 5 months old and she was so upset.  Michael had taken her teething necklace off for a bath and I asked where it was.  Michael, a natural skeptic, kind of rolled his eyes at me, put it on her and she immediately stopped crying!  He still thinks it was a coincidence, but I'm a believer!  Momma knows best...right?!  Emma cut all of her teeth with no problem at all.  We don't take it off of them ever.  They even sleep with it on and we've had no problems.  Charlotte has been very different from Emma and has had a few sleepless nights and low grade fevers, but overall I think the teething necklace has still been successful!

I love when I get contacted about reviewing a new and upcoming product.  I was excited to try these oils, especially being pregnant.  Anything to help moisture my skin to try and prevent or limit the appearance of stretch marks is ok by me!  Big plus if it smells good too.  These oils from Six Sassy Sistas did both! 

 

I am always hesitant about oils because I feel like they can be really greasy or leave stains on clothing.  These didn't do that at all.  I used them in the shower and loved using them on my growing belly before bed in the evening.  It was nice to go to bed smelling good too. 

 

These serums/oils come in 3 different sizes.  I received the travel spritzers and I loved them.  They were just the right size for what I used and it was nice to tuck them away in my purse.  I even packed a few of the scents in my delivery bag for the hospital.  They are chemical free so I feel comfortable taking them with me around the new baby.

 

The scents I reviewed were Happy Girls are the Prettiest (lemon), Where There's a Will There's a Way (crisp green apple), It doesn't Hurt to be a Lady (ooey, gooey, caramel), Toes in the Water (coconut) and Fragrance Free.  My favorite was the apple and coconut!  How fun are those names too?!

Sassy Serum Uses

Skin moisturizer – Throw out those chemical filled lotions! Soften your skin the safe way.

Make up remover – All you need is your sassy serum, a washcloth, and water.

Hair conditioner – Excellent overnight treatment for dry and/or damaged hair.

Shave those legs – Shave without razor burn! For an even smoother shave, pair with the exfoliating scrub.

Don’t forget the kids! Use with eczema, cradle cap, and diaper rash.
